Promoting Uptake
of Energy Audits in East Africa |
SDS
has been in the forefront of promoting uptake of energy audits
in East Africa. We have developed an aggressive strategy of
scaling-up energy audits amongst our clients. We are currently
running a program dubbed “Energy is a business imperative”
We believe that an improvement in energy efficiency within
an organization can potentially bring significant business
benefits. With this in mind, SDS has developed energy audit
services to help our clients find the best information for
improvement opportunities.
Through the “Energy is a business imperative”
program, we are providing our clients with substantial practical
guidelines for:
• Continuous improvement in production efficiency
• Identifying cost saving opportunities in energy efficiency

Championing
Creation of Green Building Council of East Africa (GBCEA)
|
 Currently,
SDS is championing the creation of a Green Building
Council of East Africa (GBCEA). The GBCEA is aimed at
leading the transformation of the East Africa property
industry by ensuring that buildings are designed, built
and operated in environmentally sustainable ways. Our
experts do understand that buildings are one of the
main contributors to climate change. Green building
is an opportunity to use resources efficiently and address
climate change, while creating healthier and more productive
environments for people and community.
When fully functional, the GBCEA will be an independent,
non-profit organization which will be geared towards
greening East Africa’s commercial property sector.
The council will hence provide the tools, training,
knowledge and networks to promote green building practices
across the region and build a movement that will change
the way East Africa is built. |

Green Budget East
Africa (GBEA) |
Green
Budget East Africa (GBEA) is an SDS initiative that brings together
representatives of business, international organizations, ministries,
NGOs, political decision makers, the research community and
civil society to protect society, climate and environment. It
is a loosely formed network, operates as a project of the SDS’s
green budget analysis program, and consists of experts’
platform on environmental fiscal reform (EFR) and a central
coordinating team from SDS itself. Thus, GBEA is extremely non-bureaucratic.
In spite of the relatively large number of experts involved,
its structure enables quick decision-making and quick responses
to East Africa’s annual budgets, as well as other economic
policy developments. |
Africa Sustainable
Finance Center (ASFC) |
SDS
has formed a centre of excellence in sustainable finance advisory
for Africa financial institutions (FIs).
The centre endeavors in assisting FIs define, evaluate, design
and implement green financial products and services that promote
sustainable ways of financing projects and development programs.
In short, we define models for their development / project
finance, and hence ensure they create social value.
The Center believes we have both an opportunity and obligation
to teach, practice and research finance differently.
The centre will continue advising FIs on practices that creating
economic and social value through financial models, products
and markets that are sustainable over time.

Championing Creation
of Kenya Alliance for Water Stewardship (KAWAS) |
SDS
is supporting the creation of Kenya Alliance for Water Stewardship
(KAWAS). KAWAS is aimed to be a multi-stakeholder organization
dedicated to enhancing water stewardship capacity, and guiding,
incentivizing and differentiating responsible water use. KAWAS
will employ three mutually-reinforcing programs to drive improved
water stewardship: a standard and verification system, membership
of a multi-stakeholder association, and training.
Together, these programs will be designed to build capacity
and provide a medium through which knowledge on water stewardship
can be generated, accessed and shared, helping the country
to address our shared water challenges.
